Between 2012 and 2015 I have made some custom Longboard / Skateboard decks.
The stiff ones (Mini Cruiser, Hybrid and Tiny Cruiser) are out of several layers of beech-veneer. The bottom layer is out of walnut-veneer. Because it looks cool with the map-graphics 😉 .
The flex-deck of the Kid’s drop-through (easier for young kids to start skateboarding as the deck is much closer to the ground than a standard skateboard) is out of Ash-Veneer and one bottom layer of fibreglass and an epoxycoating.
I love old maps, that is the reason for the graphics. They are all spray-painted (black, white, gold (and another colour) with several different stencils out of cardboard. The stencils for the hybrid (Magellan Channel in South America) I cut by hand and then decided after days with an wrist inflammation to cut all future stencils with the lasercutter…
They are all laminated with waterproof wood glue in a custom CNC-milled form and then cut, sanded, painted and finished by hand. More about the process here.
